Alice L. Pixler, 90, of Whiting, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ in Onawa, with Pastor Maxine Burow officiating. Burial will follow in the Hite Cemetery near Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Alice Louise was born on April 10, 1927, in Orson, Iowa, to William W. and Mary B. (Lizer) Marshall. In 1931, the family moved to Soldier, Iowa, for six months, and then settled in Moorhead. In 1932, Alice's mother was diagnosed with tuberculosis, and Alice went to live with her Aunt Zella in Woodbine. She then went to live with her Uncle Elmer near Little Sioux, where she attended a one room country school through the 4th grade. Alice's mother passed away in 1934. Alice was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints and remained faithful her entire life.

In 1936, Alice went to live with her father in Ute, and attended the Ute Independent School for grades 5 – 7. In 1939, they moved to Pisgah, where she completed the 8th grade. They then moved to Turin, and Alice graduated from Castana High School in 1944 as the class salutatorian.

Alice attended Graceland College for one year, and then entered the Independence Hospital School of Nursing in Independence, Missouri, in September 1945. She graduated 6th in her class in 1948, and passed the state board examinations to become a registered nurse. She also received an associate's degree from Graceland College. Alice worked in Independence for a short time, and then returned to Iowa to work for Dr. Stanley Anderson in Onawa.

Alice and Harold A. Pixler were married on April 29, 1951, at the RLDS Church in Moorhead. They made their home near Whiting, and Alice stayed home to care for their four children.

She returned to working as a nurse in February 1975 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, where she worked until February 1995. In 2002, the couple moved to Pleasant View Assisted Living in Whiting. Harold passed away on January 9, 2003.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and reading. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and of the Siouxland Iris Society. She was a current member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Onawa.

Survivors include her children, Arthur (Chris) Pixler of Fenton, IA, Mark Pixler of Albion, IA, Russell (Wendy) Pixler of Ames, IA, and Ann (John) Owen of Onawa, IA; seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Ryan) Rasmussen, Sean (Christa) Pixler, Caitlin (Marcos Mendez) Pixler, Matthew Pixler, Megan (Greg) Hazen, Jonathan Pixler, and Kirsten Pixler; seven great-grandchildren, Landry Rasmussen, Kellan Rasmussen, Noah Rasmussen, Makenna Pixler, Brynley Pixler, Quinlan Pixler, and Natalie Hazen; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William W. and Mary B. Marshall; her husband, Harold A. Pixler; one brother, William "Wayne" Marshall; one sister, Audrey Cohrs; one brother-in-law, Herbert Cohrs; and one infant grandson, Patrick Pixler.
