Helen M. Weber, age 94, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 16, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of Mapleton, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate; with committal services following in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2017, with a Vigil Service held at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Rosary Service, at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home, of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Helen Mildred Weber was born July 11, 1923, in rural Danbury, Iowa to John and Elizabeth (Welte) Uhl. Helen grew up on the family farm and attended country school at Living Springs School until eighth grade. During her high school years, she moved to town and lived with her Aunt Rosie Crilly during the week so she could continue her education. She graduated high school from St. Patrick’s Academy in Danbury. Helen then attended a teacher college in LeMars and taught in the local country schools before eventually becoming a wife and homemaker.

On September 23, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Leo Weber upon his return from the war. To this union six children were born: Gary, Karen, Lynette, Mark, Patricia and Laurie. Helen was a devoted mother. A large portion of her life was caring for Gary and Karen who were handicapped. Helen and Leo raised their family on the farm in rural Danbury. She was an avid gardener, loved quilting and sewing, enjoyed painting, and was an excellent cook. Helen loved going on camping trips especially while their children were growing up.

On December 8, 1987, Helen and Leo moved to Mapleton into the brand-new home that Helen designed. It was her pride and joy. She was an active member of the rosary society of Danbury and Mapleton. Helen and Leo enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for 20 years while living in Mapleton.

Helen is survived by her husband of 70 years Leo Weber of Mapleton, IA; children Lynette Weber of Centennial, CO, Mark (Laura) Weber of Mapleton, IA, Patricia Gleason (significant other Mark Ibsen) of Highlands Ranch, CO and Laurie Weber of Mapleton, IA; grandchildren Beth Weber, Paul Weber, Anne Weber, Bridget (Elliot) Hoefflin, Colin Gleason and Mary Kate Gleason; brother and sisters-in-law Martha Uhl of Mapleton, IA, Ellen Weber of Danbury, IA, Tom Thiel of Renton, WA, Evonne Weber of Denison, IA, Carole Barkley of Sioux City, IA and Alice Weber of Mapleton, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Uhl; son Gary Weber; daughter Karen Weber; siblings Sister Anne Uhl, Alfred (Nadine) Uhl, Charles (Irene) Uhl, Mary (Ed) Determan, Caroline (Casper) Meier, Bernice Uhl and Leo Uhl whom recently passed on 3/28/2017; brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond (Rita & Marian) Weber, James Weber, Mary Ann (Paul) Schoenherr, Irma (James) Sokolowski, Donald “Bud” (Marian) Weber, Lois (Ronald) Seuntjens, Helen Thiel, Vernal Weber, James Barkley and Martha (John) Halloran.
