John Fredrick "Jack" Ramirez 1936 - 2017

Jack Ramirez, 81, of Blencoe, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Per Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held on January 20, 2018. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

John Fredrick "Jack" Ramirez was born on September 22, 1936, in Queens, New York, the only child of Fredrick John and Gladys (Curran) Ramirez. When he was five, the family moved to New Jersey. At the age of seventeen, his family moved to Louisiana.

Jack entered the United States Army on November 23, 1953, and served until his honorable discharge on November 30, 1956. Upon returning home, he worked a few odd jobs before becoming a police officer. He served with the New Orleans Harbor Police, the Jefferson Parrish Sheriff's Department, and the Louisiana State Police as a trooper. He retired from the Louisiana State Police as a lieutenant at the age of fifty, but continued working odd jobs and volunteering at many places.

He married Bertha "Bert" Booth on September 3, 1973, in Metairie, Louisiana.

Jack was a member of the State Trooper Association of Louisiana, and of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Bert Ramirez of Blencoe, IA; two grandchildren, Andrea (Carey) McClure of Onawa, IA and Quentin Jetton of Sioux City, IA; four great-grandchildren, Zachery Vaughn of Turin, IA, Cyrus McClure of Onawa, IA, Lief (Robin) Jetton of Sioux City, IA, and Emma Stusse of Sioux City, IA; one brother-in-law, Bob Freer of Euless, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two stepsons, George Janes and Bobbie Jetton; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and many aunts and uncles.
