Colleen V. Kvidera, 72, of Whiting, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, after a very long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Colleen, affectionately known by family and friends as "Smurf," was born on June 8, 1945, to Joseph and Vivian (Ashmore) Keegan. She grew up in the Riverside area of Sioux City and attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Heelan High School.

Colleen married James Kvidera on April 26, 1969. The couple resided in Sioux City and later South Sioux City, where they raised their three sons. Colleen worked in the kitchen at E.N. Sweat Elementary school in South Sioux City, after her children were old enough for school, until she was unable to work due to MS.

Colleen was a fun-loving person who could often be found enjoying her son's or grandchildren's sporting events. She also enjoyed crafting, cross-stitch and spending time with family and friends.

Colleen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jim; her sons, Joe (Karla) Kvidera of Ponca, Neb., Sean (Jennifer) Kvidera of Sergeant Bluff, and Jay (Stephanie) Kvidera of Polk City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Zachery, Lindsey, Samuel and Benjamin; her sisters, Kathleen Britton of Frederic Wis., and Ann McNamara of North Sioux City; a brother, Tim of Sioux City; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Patrick; and a sister, Judy.
