29 June 2017Virginia L. Gries, 89, of Sioux City, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sioux City Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3636 Aspenwood, in Sioux City. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue.
Virginia was born on Nov. 16, 1927, in Herman, Neb., the daughter of John and Ella (Longcor) Pierce. She graduated from the Onawa High School. Her first husband was Norman Gries, who died in 1985. She was married for 35 years to Clifford Gries, who died in 1987.
Virginia graduated from a hair stylist school in 1975. She worked at Zenith Assembly Plant until it closed. Virginia loved being with her family and enjoyed babysitting. She also enjoyed driving and traveling.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Norman Gries, Jr. of Sioux City, and Duane Gries of Lincoln, Neb.; daughters, Virginia "Teter" Gries and Carol Goulette, both of Sioux City, and Ruth (John) Hood of Niles, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Gries; her son, Lonnie Gries; brothers, Niles and Lyle Pierce; and sisters, Ellen Jean Pierce and Ella Maude Pannell.
