Cora J. Hesse, 90, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at a local care facility after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. The Rev. R. Paul Johnston will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Cora was born on Jan. 18, 1927, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Lena Couch. Cora grew up in the Mapleton area and graduated from Mapleton High School.

On Sept. 17, 1947, Cora married Earl Hesse in Mapleton. Earl passed away on Aug. 23, 2102 in Sioux City.

Cora was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a mother figure to many and a sweetheart to all. She loved her family, holidays and preparing a feast. Cora liked to garden, bake and cook, spend time with her family and her dogs, Peanut and Dallas, and the cats. Cora also enjoyed reading, writing letters to family and friends, playing cards or an occasional crossword or word search (she called them her crazy books).

Survivors include her son, David and his wife, Marlene of Sioux City; a grandson, Nathan O'Connor and his wife, Jen of Des Moines; and four great-grandchildren, Abby, Alli, Aaron and Julia.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patti; and two brothers, Carl and Earl.
