Shurrell “SK” Savery, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday Aug. 3, in Fremont, Neb.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, at Morningside Chapel Christy Smith Funeral Homes with interment following in Jordan Cemetery in rural Monona County.

Visitation with the family present was held one hour prior to the service.

SK was born on May 15, 1938, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Elmer and Leona (McCall) Savery. He attended Ute schools.

SK proudly served as a member of the United States Air Force from 1959-1962. During his time in the service, he worked as aircraft missile repairman.

SK was united in marriage with Sharon Raasch from Bancroft, Neb., after his discharge. The couple later divorced. He them attended Morningside College receiving his bachelor’s degree. He also attended auctioneer school and became an accomplished auctioneer.

SK worked Conagra, Golden Sun Feeds, and Westendorf Manufacturing in sales and marketing, as well as farming in the Soldier and Ute areas. SK retired in 2001.

In 2007, SK moved to Sioux City, and in May of this year, he moved to Fremont to be near his daughter.

SK was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, The Shrine, the VFFW and American Legion. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sports.

SK is survived by his daughters, Shelly Powley (Steve) of Fremont, Neb., and Stacy English of Sioux City; son, Scott (Debra) Savery of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Dustin, Dylan, Danika, Miranda, Logan, Rhea, and Tori; great-grandchildren, Marley, Bryson, Ryan, and Lucy; and one brother, Norman (Mickey) Savery of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nickolas; and son, Steven.
