Dixie Lee Sherrill, 79, of Whiting, Iowa, died Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa, with Pastor Craig Bock officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Albaton. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, August 21, 2017, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at the church. Visitation will resume at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday until service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Dixie Lee was born on September 17, 1937, in Onawa, the daughter of Anton "Tony" and Gladys (Lee) Anderson. She grew up on the family farm near Whiting, and graduated from Whiting High School. She worked at the Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City for a short time until her marriage.

Dixie and Gary Sherrill were united in marriage on March 31, 1957, at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton. The couple made their home and farmed near Whiting. Dixie stayed home to raise their children, and then worked in the dietary department at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting for several years.

She enjoyed dancing with her husband, fishing, camping, spending time at the river, going to the casino, playing bingo and card games, shopping, having "girls' days" and family barbeques, and overall enjoyed having fun. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed attending their athletic events.

She was a lifetime member of Skien Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and attended Martha's Circle over the years.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Dustin Fey of Whiting, IA and Kim and Leo Riley of Onawa, IA; seven grandchildren, Christopher Riley, Skyler Riley, Tori Riley, Ashley Cameron, Brittany Cameron, Tiffanie Cameron, and Abigail Fey; seven great-grandchildren, Quinten Riley, Zander Riley, Marley Riley, Isabella Riley, Jade Disney, Amber Disney, and Cole Disney; one uncle, Kermit Lee of Sloan, IA; three sisters-in-law, Claudia Anderson of Texas, Ruth Sherrill of Sioux City, IA, and Judy Sherrill of Costa Rica; two brothers-in-law, Willis Sherrill and Thomas (Rachel) Sherrill, both of Oregon; a lifetime friend, Elizabeth Morton of Onawa, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton "Tony" and Gladys Anderson; husband, Gary Sherrill on October 17, 2007; two infant daughters, Melanie Sue and Kathy Lou Sherrill; one great-grandson, Markis Dahms; infant sister, Marvel Doreen Anderson; brother, Darrell Anderson; and three brothers-in-law, Terrance, Roger, and Donald Sherrill.
