Nina M. Pickens, 89, Onawa, Iowa died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Premier Estates at Onawa.

Nina was born September 2, 1916 at Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of Frank G. and Margaret (McManamy) Kendall. After her mother's death, she moved to Sioux City to live with her sister, Hazel. Nina lived in various places. While living in Omaha, NE, she worked at Union Pacific and later 15 years at Hockenbergs Restaurant Supply.

She was married to Fred A. Pickens. After his death, she moved to Bellevue, NE and the past three years made her home at Premier Estates, Onawa. She joyfully enjoyed the new atmosphere, made many friends and each day awaited the 3:00 o'clock coffees.

She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Omaha. She enjoyed gardening and spent many years volunteering in the gardens of Henry Doorly Zoo, Omaha.

Survivors include stepsons; nieces and nephews.

She was, preceded in death by her parents, her husband and eleven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2006 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa.

Music selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", with Darren Goslar, soloist and Maurine Frisk, organist. Burial was in Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Iowa. Visitation was at 10:00. a.m. Monday, at the funeral home until service time.

Casket bearers were Nina's nephews and great nephews.
