John Albert Hinkel, 80, of Onawa, died Sunday, September 4, 2005, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa following a six-week illness.

John was born on June 21, 1925, at Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Everett and Hazel Kline Hinkel. He attended the Pisgah School, graduating in 1942. He was married to A. Lucille Hinkel in 1945, near Pisgah, Iowa. John was a sheet metal and roofing worker with the Weathercraft Co. in Lincoln, NE for 21 years. They lived in Lincoln for 21 years until John retired in 1990 and they moved to Onawa, Iowa.

He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Onawa and the Sheetmetal Workers Union in Lincoln. He enjoyed working with his hands, creating crafts from both wood and sheet metal. He was always building something.

John is, survived by his wife, A. Lucille Hinkel of Onawa; his five children: Linda Viets and husband, Phillip of Watson, MO, Patty King of San Diego, CA, Dan Hinkel and his wife, Jeanie of Hartington, NE, Dean Hinkel of San Diego, CA, and T. John Hinkel and his wife, Kyle of Utica, NE; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; six brothers and sisters: Dorothy Hildreth and husband, Bud of Logan, IA, Janice Hicks and husband, Beryl of Primghar, IA, Verva Thiles of Neola, IA, Keith Hinkel and wife, Nancy of Moorhead, IA, Merna Beeber and husband, Doyle of Yale, IA, and Rick Hinkel and wife, Debbie of Laramie, WY, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was, preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Everett.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Community of Christ Church in Pisgah, Iowa, with Pastor Jackie Girdner and Evangelist John Lizer officiating. The organist, Norma Jensen, played "Mansion Over The Hilltop" and "Shall We Gather At The River".

Casket Bearers were Robert Kaufman, Jon Veits, Christine Hinkel, Matthew Hinkel, Harvey Andresen and Alice Quintanilla.

Interment was in Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, IA with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
