ONAWA, Iowa -- Charles "Chuck" Ping, 79, of Onawa died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Whiting, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Wilma (Sisson) Ping. He attended Onawa Public School, where he graduated from 1944. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He married Marie Louise Collett on Feb. 26, 1945. Two children were born to this union. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 26 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary; a daughter and her husband, Christy and Larry Anderson of Onawa; a son and his wife, Randy and Valerie Ping of Onawa; four grandchildren, Kevin and Karen Anderson, both of Omaha and David and Emily Murray, both of Onawa; a great-grandson, Keagan Limoges of Onawa; four brothers, George (Margaret) of Sioux City, Willard (Jean) of Green Valley, Ariz., James of Alhambra, Calif., and Richard (Marlene) of Onawa; and a sister-in-law, Margie Ping of Seal Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
