Mapleton dentist William Hubel dies; rites to be Friday

Mapleton, Iowa-- Dr. William G. Hubel, 79, of Mapleton, died Monday at an Onawa hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Walter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Simeltzer officiating. Quarry Lodge 404, AF&AM, will conduct masonic rites. Burial will be in Little Sioux Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Loren Hollister post 496 American Legion.

Dr. Hubel was born April 6, 1899 at Little Sioux. He was graduated from Mondamin High School and from Creighton Dental College at Omaha in 1927. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI. He was appointed to the George Eastman Clinic Dispensary, Rochester, Minnesota and the McDowell County Clinic in West Virginia.

He moved to Mapleton in 1930 and practiced dentistry until 1976, when he retired. He was a 50-year member of quarry Lodge and of Loren Hollister Post. He also was a member of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City.

He was a life member in the northwestern district of the Iowa Dental Association and a member of the National Dental Association. He had visited the Holy Land three times. He received a Century Farm award during the Bicentennial.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Mildred) Ward, Little Sioux and Mrs. Gertrude Gribble, Leguna Beach, California.
