Grover Wesley Sander, 84, Ute, Iowa died Saturday unexpectedly in Phoenix, Arizona, en route home from Mesa, Arizona where he was spending the winter.

Services will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ute, Iowa, with Reverend Robert Leege officiating. Burial will be in St. Claire Cemetery, Ute, Iowa with the Walter Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Sander was born July 17, 1893, near Dow City. As a young man he lived in Charter Oak, moved to Redfield, South Dakota and worked at the light plant. He later managed the Farmers Elevator in Ute and worked at the Hitchens Hardware in Ute. He then owned and operated Sanders Hardware and Plumbing and Heating in Ute.

He retired 15 years ago. He married Rose Mesenbrink in 1915. She died in 1951. On January 9, 1954, he married Rose Pithan in Missouri Valley. She died in 1976.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a past member of the Volunteer Fire Department and the Ute Commercial Club. He was a longtime member of the Iowa Hardware Dealers Association.

Survivors include two sons, Louis of Ute and Robert of Lawton; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Mary) Smith of Marshalltown; a step-son, Laverne Rodewald of Missouri Valley; a step-daughter, Mrs. Dale (Alice) Guiles of Council Bluffs, 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Walt Nun, William Perwitz, Johannes Petersen, Dillon Hunter, Dr. Robert Sharp and Elmer Bartels.
