Mathew Eric Goodvin, 39, of Sloan, Iowa, left this mortal coil on July 3, 2017.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Skien Lutheran Church, 11929 Aspen Avenue, Sloan, Iowa, with the funeral following at 10:00 A.M. at the church, officiated by Pastor Craig Bock. Burial will be at the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Mat was born April 24th, 1978 in Sioux City and grew up in the Sgt. Bluff and Sloan areas. He graduated from Sloan's Westwood High School in 1996.

He married Christy Brenden, and the couple had twin sons.

Mat wanted to be three things when he grew up: a farmer, a truck driver, and a cowboy. He began farming with his father during high school, satisfying the need to drive big rigs and heavy equipment. Rodeo cowboy was next on the agenda, and he held on to the bull the whole eight seconds, several times. He loved big trucks, tractors, fast cars, and the cowboy life, but not as much as he loved his sons and family.

He is survived by his son, Justin Ray Goodvin; his stepdaughter, Kayla Brenden; parents, Virgil and Jackie Goodvin; siblings, Amy (Goodvin) Mueller, Jeremy Goodvin, and Scott Goodvin; as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his son, Garret Michael Goodvin.
