Francis Miles Reed, 87, Onawa, Iowa passed away June 4, 2006 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Francis was born January 27, 1919 at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Chet and Flossie (Van Winkle) Reed. He married Pearl June Beedle November 23, 1940. The couple made their home and raised their family on a farm in rural Onawa. Pearl passed away August 22, 2001.

Francis loved planting and watching his crops grow and also was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the beauty of this earth and all its wildlife and loved sharing his love and respect of it with his children.

He was a WW II veteran and a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge which Francis' father was a charter member.

Survivors include six children, Patricia (Gary) Devall of O'Neill, NE, Larry Reed of Onawa, Carolyn (Ken) Martin of Fall Creek, OR, Reva Walker of Westerville, OH, Lon (Larry) Whitson of Springfield, OR and Lynn (Linda) Reed of Onawa; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert, Harold, Merle and John Reed and four sisters, Phyllis Norris, Lois Stephenson, Myma Moore, and Mary Ellen Rogers all living in California.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 a m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Olsen, officiating. Music selections were "Because He Lives" and "In The Garden".

Burial was in Onawa Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the United States Army and Monona County VFW Post S2694. Visitation was from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral.

Casket bearers were Brad DeVall, Reed Devall, Clint Reed, Chet Reed, Josh Reed, Boulder Young and Charlie Bentley.
