ONAWA, Iowa -- Harold W. Hausman, 88, of Onawa passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, where he had been a resident the past year and a half, after suffering a stroke.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Harold was born April 8, 1917, to Christ and Anna (Schenkelberg) Hausman in Halbur, Iowa. He was raised in the Halbur area and attended school there.

He married Lillian Hansen on April 22, 1941, in Onawa. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, the couple farmed in rural Onawa, where they raised their family. Harold will always be remembered for his honesty, "big heart" and winning smile. He enjoyed golfing, and at age 83, attained a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, puzzles, cultivating and nurturing a watermelon patch, caring for the church lawn and attending his grandchildren's activities.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Monona County Cattleman's Association, where he was treasurer for many years, as well as a past member of Kiwanis Club of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lillian of Onawa; seven children, David (Gloria), Allen (Nouella), Marvin (Jill) and Ronald (Cindy), all of Onawa, Donna (Irv) Seitz of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ann (Jim) Bennett of New Hampton, Iowa and Mary (Steve) Citta of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen (Orv) Flogerzi of Lakewood, Calif. and Katherine (Frank) Dieter of Redondo Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Irene Vasos, Sister Barbara Ann and Lucille Wyman; three brothers, Melvin, Louis and Robert; and a great-grandson in infancy.
