Maxine M. Gramm, 1922 - 2017

Maxine M. Gramm, 94, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, May 26, 2017.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ in Rodney, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will follow in Grant Township Cemetery near Rodney. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Maxine was born Dec. 2, 1922, in rural Smithland, Iowa, to Ralph and Celia Seitzinger. She graduated from Hornick High School in 1940.

Maxine was a farm wife in the Rodney and Onawa areas for many years. She met her husband, Royce in Rodney, and married him in California on Feb. 7, 1942. Maxine and Royce returned to Iowa to farm. They moved to Sioux City after Royce went into the insurance business. After Royce’s retirement, winters were spent in Arizona and Texas until Royce’s passing.

Maxine enjoyed her family, bridge, golf, quilting, sewing, gardening and in her early years in Sioux City, volunteering for Welcome Wagon.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Royce “Skip” Gramm (Jan) of Sioux City, and Marsha Wiese (Alan) of Tekamah, Neb.; grandchildren, Shannon Gramm (Brandi), Tara (Gramm) Hovseth (Chad), Amber (Wiese) Gibson (Stacy) and Heather (Wiese) Starr (Jason); great-grandchildren, Dillon Gibson, Hannah Gibson, Drake Starr, Brody Starr, Sienna Hovseth and Cole Hovseth; brothers, Robert Seitzinger (Virginia), and Lyle Seitzinger (Sherma); her beloved canine companion, JoJo; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Celia Sietzinger; husband, Royce; and one sister, Lucille Kersey (Jerry).

Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Church of Christ in Rodney.
