Whiting, Iowa – L. Pauline Spies, 80, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Whiting, died Saturday, November 26, 1996 in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Merrill Melbourne Church, Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Sarah Malone officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Valley Cemetery in Merrill. Roper and Sons Mortuary of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Spies was born in Whiting. She married W. Gordon Spies. She was a retired office manager.

Mrs. Spies was a member of the Melbourne Evangelical United Brethren Church in Melbourne, Iowa.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Barbara and John Mapes of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Janet Nason, Gordon Harrod, Pat Awsjukiewicz and Cheryl Swett, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters. Louise Loughborough and Kathryn and her husband Paul Berg both of California and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister and brother.

Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association of Omaha, Nebraska.
