James R. Barry, 92, of Onawa, Iowa passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Per his wishes, the body was cremated and memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 3, 2017 at First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Loup City, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until service time Friday, March 3, 2017 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

James Robinson was born at Woodbine, Iowa the son of Roscoe and Ruby (Robinson) Barry on February 19, 1925. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Woodbine High School in May of 1942.

He joined the United States Navy in May 1943, and spent most of his time on several islands in the South Pacific. He was Honorably Discharged in April, 1946. After returning home, he helped his dad on the farm.

He married Lois Jones, and they had two children, Chris and Klyla.

James was a salesman for most of his life. He was a good natured person and never met a stranger.

He married Wilma Shepcott in 1953 and they had two boys, Don and Bill. James and Wilma enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas. They were married 49 years before Wilma passed away in 2002.

In 2005, he married Glendina Peterson and lived in Onawa. In 2012, he became ill and went to the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa. He had been there over four years when he passed away.

Survivors include wife, Glendina Barry; one daughter, Klyla (Larry) Rosenbaum; three sons, Chris Barry, Don (Debbie) Barry, and Bill (Sarah) Barry; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Knapp, Eloise (Ken) Lockland, and Bobbie Forman; one brother, John (Carol) Barry; sister-in-law, Betty Barry; nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; one sister, Donna; three brothers, Clifford, George, and Lawrence; a great-grandson, Johnny Matson; three brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Barry.

Memorials May Be Directed In James' Memory To The Alzheimer's Foundation.
