1 March 2017Larry M. Reed, 73, of Onawa, Iowa died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 27, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis, officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army, David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa, and the Monona County VFW Post #2694. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa Iowa.
Larry Miles Reed was born July 21, 1943 in Onawa, Iowa, son of Francis and Pearl (Beedle) Reed. He grew up in Onawa and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Onawa High School in 1961 and then attended the Norfolk Community College in Norfolk, NE.
He was inducted into the United States Army on November 4, 1964 and served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge on October 22, 1966.
Larry and Connie Sanders were united in marriage on March 21, 1970 in Reno, Nevada. Four children were born to this union, Amy, Clinton, Emily, and Chet.
Larry owned and operated Reed Construction where he was a carpenter on many projects over the years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, woodworking, and was an avid bowler.
Larry was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Amy Dionne Reed of Onawa, Iowa, Clinton Miles (Shannon) Reed of Bossier City, Louisiana, Emily Denise (Matt) Labno of Whiting, Iowa, and Chet Austin (Kelli) Reed of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, Kayli, Kassidy, and Kourtney Methvin, Jordan Cook, Austin, Madison, and Alyson Reed, Cole and Alayna Young, Matthew Jr. and Marissa Labno, Gavin Reed, and twins, Olivia and Emma Reed; great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Aubrey Cook; two sisters, Patricia (Gary) Devall of O'Neill, Nebraska and Lori (Larry) Whitson of Eugene, Oregon; one brother, Lynn (Linda) Reed of Onawa, IA; one brother-in-law, Ken Martin of Little Fall Creek, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Pearl (Beedle) Reed; and two sisters, Reva Jo Walker and Carolyn Martin.
