Leonard F. Seieroe, son of Louie and Etta (Kessler) Seieroe, was born on June 27, 1926 near Dunlap, Iowa.

Leonard grew up on farms around Dunlap where he attended country school through 8th grade. At the age of 15, Leonard traveled to Alaska with his father to work on the ALCAN highway project. He later returned to Alaska at the age of 80 to find the project work camps where they stayed.

At the age of 18, on November 29, 1944, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division during WWII. He served in the Pacific theater and later in occupied Japan. Leonard honorably served his country for two years and was discharged on November 17, 1946. He was proud to be a veteran and lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

In 1951, Leonard met the love of his life, Patsy Weaver, during a dance at the Eagle’s Club in Onawa. On February 14, 1954, Leonard married Patsy in the Christian Church in Onawa and the couple made their home on the family farm south of Ute. He was baptized in the Christian Church in April 1958.

Leonard and Patsy were blessed with four children: David, Deborah, Nancy, and Mary. Leonard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. Leonard cherished his time spent with family and friends. He loved to laugh, play cards, and read old western novels. He enjoyed numerous fishing trips to Alaska, Canada, and Minnesota. His passion was farming and gardening, along with a hard day’s work. He had a special passion and talent for working with animals (including cows, horses, dogs, cats, and any wild animal he could tame).

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Nancy Seieroe; sister Charlotte Behmer, and brothers Elmer (Helen), Harold (Irene), Wesley, and Edward.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Patsy Seieroe of Ute, Iowa; children David (Linda) Seieroe of Ute, Iowa, Deborah (Timothy) Grieves of Sioux City, Iowa, Mary Seieroe (Carl Ebert) of Golden Valley, Minnesota; grandchildren Kent Seieroe, Kay (David) Galvin, Audra (Bradley) Daufeldt, Emily Seieroe, Brian (Ashton) Seieroe, and Nolan Grieves; great grandchildren Madison Young, Marissa Galvin, Owen Galvin, Anna Galvin, Chloe Galvin, Wesley Daufeldt, and Dane Daufeldt; brother Thomas (Judy) Seieroe of Sac City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ruth Seieroe of Ute, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
