William Dean Knutson 1935 - 2005

William Dean Knutson was born on December 12, 1935 in rural Ute, Iowa to Chris and Leona (Lee) Knutson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. He graduated from the Ute High School in 1954. On June 1, 1958 he married Judith Houston in Boone, Iowa. The couple farmed in Monona and Crawford counties until 1984 when they relocated to Omaha, NE where Bill attended Universal Technical School for two years. He worked in heating, cooling and refrigeration in Omaha. In 1995 the couple moved to Florida, where Bill was employed as a HVAC Engineer for Marriott Senior Living. The couple moved to St. Louis, MO in November of 2004 due to Bill's failing health.

William was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Gethsemane Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO. Bill's nine grandchildren were the light of his life.

William died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at his home in St. Louis, MO after a long illness at the age of 69 years.

William was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Vernon, Clayton and Harlan Knutson and a sister Marcedes Jenkinson.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith Knutson of St. Louis, MO; four children, William D. Knutson, Jr. of Omaha, NE, Sonya and her husband Gary Mogenson of St. Louis, MO, Ramona and her husband Steve Le e of Fort Wayne, IN and Bradley Knutson and his wife Kelly of Seattle, WA; nine grandchildren, Kristen, Joe and Allison Roberts, Rob, Paul and Elizabeth Lee and William, Lillian and Abigail Knutson; two sisters, Lucille Gorham of Omaha, NE and Vivien Knutson of Denver, CO and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at Soldier Lutheran Country Church, rural Soldier, on Monday, August 29, 2005 with Pastor Meggan Marilove officiating. Kristin Roberts gave the obituary and Allison Roberts, Steve Lee and Duane Fester gave tributes. Ruth Owens, musician accompanied Jerry Baldwin, vocalist as he sang "How Great Thou Art". Rob and Paul Lee and Joe Roberts provided a special guitar selection, "Amazing Grace".

Pallbearers were Steve Lee, Duane Fester, Gary Mogenson, Rob Lee, Don Mathys, and Joe Roberts. Interment was in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, rural Soldier with arrangements by Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine and Dunlap.
