Lillian A. Whitehorn, 85, of Onawa, Iowa, died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa with Vicar Shari Schwedhelm officiating. Burial will follow in Kennebec Cemetery near Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, December 15, 2016 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Lillian Agnes was born October 13, 1931 in Moorhead, Iowa to Jens Sigurd and Eli (Holst) Sorenson. Her father died when she was young, and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Chris Sorenson, in the Moorhead area. She graduated from Castana High School in 1949.

Lillian and Carl Walter Simpson, Jr. were united in marriage February 14, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union, seven children were born. The couple made their home in rural Onawa, Iowa. Carl passed away on April 7, 1987.

Lillian and Willis D. Whitehorn were married May 2, 1998 in Onawa. Willis passed away on May 6, 2001.

She worked at the Onawa Locker and as a waitress at many restaurants in the Onawa area for several years. She was later employed as a receptionist at the Super 8 Motel in Onawa until she retired at age 78.

She was an avid bowler, and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.

Survivors include seven children, Dennis Simpson of Onawa, IA, Nancy Jenkins of Sioux City, IA, Mike Simpson of Onawa, IA, Sandy Simpson of Onawa, IA, Roger Simpson of Onawa, IA, Jim (Sheri) Simpson of Lake Virginia, MN, and Doug (Tammy) Simpson of Omaha, NE; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herb (Marie) Sorenson of Puyallup, WA and Sigurd Sorenson of Omaha, NE; one sister, Norma Cundiff of Council Bluffs, IA; the family of her second husband, Willis D. Whitehorn; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jens Sigurd and Eli Sorenson; stepfather, Chris Sorenson; husbands, Carl Walter Simpson, Jr. and Willis D. Whitehorn; son-in-law, Norman Martindale; sister-in-law, Carol Sorenson; and brother-in-law, Jerry Cundiff.
