Myrlen L. Wakehouse, 89, of Whiting, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Private family memorial services will be held with burial in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Myrlen Lucille was born August 31, 1927 in Pisgah, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Cecil (Clark) Peterson. She attended school in Moorhead and Pisgah.

Myrlen and Darrell J. Wakehouse were united in marriage on June 29, 1946 at the RLDS Church in Pisgah.

She worked as a nurse's aide at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa before moving with her family to Barstow, California in 1962. There, she was employed as a nurse's aide at a local hospital. She lived in Barstow for 48 years before moving back to this area.

Survivors include two children, Larry and wife Karen Wakehouse of Akron, OH and Laurie and husband Greg Keagan of New Zealand; eight grandchildren, Tracy, Michael, Shannon, Lee, Richard, Steven, Michael, and Melissa; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet and husband Keith Payne of North Sioux City, SD; one nephew, David Payne of North Sioux City, SD; and one niece, Nancy and husband James Deming of Mesa, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell J. Wakehouse; her parents, Chris and Cecil Peterson; her parents-in-law, Ed and Lilly Wakehouse; one daughter, Sandra; two brothers; one sister; one sister-in-law, Avis and husband Hi Hansen; and one niece, Rebecca Payne.
