Mardelle F. Brown, 84, of rural Turin, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 7, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa, with Vicar Shari Schwedhelm officiating. Burial will follow in Belvidere Cemetery, rural Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Mardelle Faye was born October 23, 1932 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alma (Peckenschneider) Oatman. She graduated from Providence Consolidated School in Sulphur Springs, Iowa in 1950. She continued her studies at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, where she studied business and music. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1955. She then taught school in Pomeroy, Iowa and Castana, Iowa.

Mardelle and Syril V. Brown were united in marriage on June 27, 1958 in Storm Lake. The couple made their home in rural Turin, Iowa. Syril passed away on December 23, 2001.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, and Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa where she belonged to women's groups and served as a longtime organist and church secretary. She enjoyed crafting and bird watching in her spare time. She had a lifetime love of music.

Survivors include one daughter, Christy (Bob) Bowers of Shawnee, KS; three sons, Todd Brown of Onawa, IA, Jeff Brown of Turin, Iowa, and Dave (Sheri Streeter) Brown of Onawa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Travis Mauch, Ashlee (Chad) Marihart, Mollie Mauch, and Adam (Lexy Aukes) Brown; two great-grandchildren, Audree Marihart and Ellie Brown; and one sister, Leila McDeid of Spencer, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma Oatman; her husband, Syril V. Brown; one daughter, Faye Brown; three brothers, Glen, Virgil, and John Junior Oatman; and one sister, Velma Redenbaugh.
