11 November 2016Sara "Sally" Ellen Deal, 96, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Tucson, Arizona, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Dennis Burns officiating. Burial will take place in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona at a later date. Visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Sara "Sally" Ellen Deal was born October 11, 1920 in Lexington, Nebraska, the daughter of Grover and Pearl (Aunspaugh) Swank. She graduated from high school in Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1939. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone and Warner Brothers in Hollywood, California.
She married the love of her life, Harold Edwin Deal, on November 5, 1942. The couple enjoyed traveling and living all over the country. Harold passed away on July 16, 1991, just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.
She moved from Tucson, Arizona to Onawa, Iowa in 2006. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Onawa. The most important thing in her life was her relationship with God, and she spent time reading the Bible every day. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two nephews, Duane Feltman and family of Santa Clarita, CA and LeRoy Adams and family of Grand Junction, CO; four nieces, Linda (Les) Warren and family of Camarillo, CA, Betty (Gene) Martindale and family of Turin, IA, Linda (Sonny) Thompson and family of Honey Creek, IA, and Virginia Feltman and family of Chamberlain, SD; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Deal; her parents, Grover and Pearl Swank; and one brother, Grover Swank, Jr.
