Whiting Farmer’s Preliminary Hearing Continued to Tuesday
Onawa, Iowa—Special: A murder charge has been filed against Albert Sedig, 55, Whiting farmer, in the rural road slaying of Argo Olson last Friday evening, James F. Cooper, Monona County attorney, said Sunday night.
A preliminary hearing for Sedig Monday was continued to Tuesday afternoon at the defendant’s request.
Sedig surrendered to Sheriff Melvin Peterson shortly after Olson was shot four times with a 22-caliber rifle on a gravel road four and a half miles west of Whiting. Sheriff Peterson quoted him as saying he had shot Olson, 45, in self defense as the climax of an argument.
Olson was reported to have walked a half mile after he was shot and to have died in the home of a Mrs. Jett, Sedig’s sister.
Funeral services for Olson will be held at the home of a brother-in-law, Harley Thomas, Albaton, Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and at Skein Lutheran Church there at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Albaton Cemetery.
Olson was a widower.
Survivors include a son, Cecil, in the army; a daughter, Charlotte, Breda, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Ralph Gerking, Sioux City and a brother, Otis, Sloan.
