Mary Ann McFarland, 79, of Whiting, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Whiting, Iowa with Steve Jewett, officiating. Burial will be in the Whiting City Cemetery in Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Mary Ann was born December 9, 1936 at Gard Lake Farm, south of Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of George Edgar and Minnie W. (Birk) Lane.

Mary Ann grew up in rural Onawa, Iowa and graduated from Onawa High School in 1955. She attended Iowa Teachers College and taught kindergarten in Cherokee, Iowa for two years. She continued substitute teaching for many years.

Mary Ann and Robert "Bob" A. McFarland were united in marriage on June 14, 1959 at the Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Whiting, Iowa area. Two children were born to this union, Aaron and Ann. Bob preceded her in death on December 1, 2012.

Mary Ann loved to spend time with all of her family. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang at many weddings and funerals over the years. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, and her cats.
Mary Ann was an active member of the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Whiting, Iowa. Mary Ann was also Past Matron of the Order of The Eastern Star.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Aaron McFarland of Bloomington, MN; her daughter, Ann (Dave) Lesan of Nevada, IA; two grandsons, Quentin Lesan of Loveland, CO and Morgan Lesan of Ames, IA; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Lane of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob McFarland; sister, Dorothy (Raymond) Fouts; and brother, Charles Lane.
