Dorothy Sattman-1925-2008
Arichidean Dorothy Sattman, age 82, of Ida Grove, Iowa, was born the only child of Henry and Alvina (Lorenzen) Noethlich on May 20, 1925, in Ute, Iowa. Dorothy was raised and attended school in Mapleton, Iowa. Dorothy enjoyed music and dance and spent her spare time going to movies and reading about Hollywood happenings. Although Dorothy grew up during the great depression, she set her mind to never be depressed and always saw the silver lining in every cloud. Dorothy worked for 15 years at Griffin Pharmacy in Mapleton. But for the times, Dorothy may well have become a pharmacist.

Dorothy met Leo Sattman on a blind date and they were married on December 18, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They raised their only child Kelly Lea in Ida Grove, Iowa. Always up for an adventure, she even learned to fish for the elusive walleye aside her husband, Leo. Dorothy worked for the Reminder, the Ida County Courier, and Midwest. She was a volunteer at Horn Memorial Hospital, and a member of the Ida County Genealogical Society. Archaeology was one of her fascinations. Dorothy loved to travel. After high school, she frequently took trips with her friends and family. She had amazing adventures, and made every moment count. Family trips included obscure itineraries that Dorothy took great pride in planning. The highlight of her travels culminated in a three week vacation to Australia with her daughter. Kelly recalls herself sensibly standing on the ground while Dorothy embarked on a hot air balloon ride over the Australian outback. The balloon inadvertently set down on a tree and caught on fire while Kelly hauntingly recalled the words of her father, "watch out for your mother". All turned out well, and Dorothy thought of the incident as yet another thrilling adventure.

Dorothy passed away on March 12, 2008, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, where she resided for 4 1/2 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Sattman, ten months earlier. She is survived by her daughter Kelly Lea Sattman and her son-in-law Mark Lynch of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, her aunts Helen Lorenzen of Ida Grove and Hilda Lorenzen of Onawa, a sister-in-law Ann Sattman of Raymond, MN, and a brother-in-law Carl Sattman of Winnigan, MO. She loved all her cousins, nieces and nephews and had ways of make each of them feel special. Dorothy had many friends and in turn was a true friend. She could always keep a secret, and never gossiped or complained. Dorothy will be inurned aside her husband near the Sattman family farm in New Boston, Missouri. Services are private, and remembrances may be sent to Kelly's attention at 20 Lynch Lane, Harwich, MA 02645.

The Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove is in charge of professional arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to www.christensenhuffman.com.
