1 May 1986Oscar M. Larson, 93, Soldier, Iowa, died April 20, 1966, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
He was born September 10, 1892, on a farm near Ute, Iowa, to Lars and Olena (Hanson) Larson. On January 27, 1916, he married Virgil Anna Fay Ball at Ute. The couple farmed in the Soldier and Ute areas until retiring in 1958. He then was employed at the Soldier Elevator until 1971. Mrs. Larson died May 10, 1968, in Onawa. He was baptized in the Soldier Lutheran Church, for a number of years was a member of the Christian Church of Ute, and was presently a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Jesse (Ruth) Hagerdon of Smithland, Mrs. Everett (Lavina) Price of Mapleton and Mrs. Milton (Burnetta) Melby of Soldier; 14 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents; his wife, one son, LeRoyce Larson, on April 5, 1986; two grandchildren, Keith and Ricky; six brothers; and five sisters.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 1986, at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Jeani Melby who sang, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "How Great Thou Art".
Honorary Bearers were Lloyd Koski, Murlyn Ronk, Earl Chambers, Earl Weber, Ted Dai, Noel DeLance, Gerald Hicks and Arnold Melby.
Active Bearers were Bryan Melby, Kevin Melby, Michael Price, William Hagerdon, Ronald Hagerdon and Morey Larson.
Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
