Merle E. Seaman, 70, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, died on March 14, 1986, at his home in Fremont, California, after suffering a heart attack.

He was born November 24, 1915, at Limon Colorado, to Charles W. and Mabel (Fletcher) Seaman. He came to Whiting as a boy and lived most of his life in the Whiting and Onawa areas. He lived in California for 20 years and returned to this area in 1964. He moved to Freemont two years ago. He was a retired truck driver and had worked for Peters Construction of Onawa, Malloy Trucking of Sloan and Jensen Construction of Sioux City.

Mr. Seaman served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a past commander of Monona County VFW Post No. 2694.

Survivors include two daughters, Darla Babbitt of Fremont, California; and Dixie Wood of Pea Ridge, Ark; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Gladys Mann and Julia Hidde.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 1986, at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Jerry Quandt and Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, played “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Bearers were Mark Marshall, Jim Marshall, Raymond Harding, Marion Gulick, John McCord and Danny Little.

Interment was in Harrison Cemetery at Whiting, Iowa, with Military Graveside Services by Monona County VFW Post No. 2694, Logan Butcher, Commander. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
