Mrs. James Larson departed this life Tuesday 4Apr1916 at her home one mile north of Soldier from a complication of diseases, from which she has been a patient sufferer for the past four or five months, and for three weeks previous to her death was under the constant care of a trained nurse.
Sara Thoreson was born at Tvedt Valdors Norway 5Mar1851 and with her parents came to the United States in 1855, making the voyage in one of the sailing vessels common at that time and was on the Atlantic Ocean six weeks, owing to the vessel having been caught in a calm. They settled at Manitowoc, WI and in 1871 she came to Iowa and made her home with her brother, Elling Thoreson who lived south of Soldier.
On 18Nov1878 she was united in marriage to James Larson at Onawa, IA and to this union was born two children, LeRoy who resides at Sumatra, MT and Mabel who died at the age of four years.
Mrs. Larson has been a resident of Monona County for 32 years and will be remembered by the older citizens of the community as Soldier's first assistant postmistress, being employed by Ole Strand, the first post master.
She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, James Larson of Soldier, and one son, LeRoy of Sumatra MT; two grand children and a sister Mrs. Mary Tylken of Zumbrota MN besides other relatives and a lot of friends.
Mrs. Larson was highly respected by all who knew her and the bereaved family have the sympathy of all in ...of one so dear.
The funeral took place at the Norwegian Lutheran Church south of Soldier of which she was a faithful member, Rev. Sunner preaching the funeral sermon, interment was made in the cemetery south of the church.
