Charleen "Char" Knudson, 78, of Onawa, Iowa formerly of Irwin, Iowa passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Onawa surrounded by her family.

Memorial graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, Iowa with Evangelist Dale Wolf, officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Charleen Joan "Char" was born on August 1, 1937 in Lincoln Township, Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Gertrude (Schroeder) Barten. She grew up in the Audubon County Lincoln Township area. Her family moved to Irwin when her father passed away in 1947. She graduated from high school and moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she graduated from the College of Commercial Extension in 1954 and then worked for Packers National Bank. She then moved to Denver, Colorado and worked for Union National Bank.

Char and Kenneth Knudson were united in marriage in 1960. Two children were born to this union, Deborah and Randy. After she raised her children, she worked for CDS from 1980-2005. Kenneth preceded her in death in 2012.

Char was a member of Red Hat Society and the Onawa Women's Club. She was also a volunteer at Burgess Health Center and enjoyed working out at their MOG.

Char is survived by her daughter, Deb (Myron) Kellen of Onawa, IA and her son, Randy Knudson of Council Bluffs, IA; two granddaughters, Ashley (Michael Wingert and his daughter, Geniveve) Kellen of Hinton, IA and Danielle Kellen of Sioux City, IA; one brother, Arlo (Ruth) Barten of Des Moines, IA; one sister, Verta Mae Von Tersch of Sioux City, IA; one step-brother, Marland (Jeannie) Mork of Denison, IA; one step-sister, Dwanna Axland of Arizona; and her loving dog companion, Jaz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Gertrude Barten; husband, Kenneth Knudson; and two brothers-in-law, Eugene Von Tersch and Gerald Axland.
