Esther Olena Harding 1894 - 1986

Esther O. Harding, Whiting, Iowa, died on March 24, 1986, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a brief illness. Death came at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 17 days.

She was born in Holt County, Nebraska, on February 7, 1894. Her parents were Andrew and Mattie (Jensen) Johnson. She was married to Bert E. Harding March 20, 1912, in O'Neill, Nebraska. The couple made their home at Lawton and Nebraska, coming to the Whiting area in 1924. Mr. Harding died January 16, 1974, in Onawa. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ at Whiting and one of the first members of the High Ridge Club. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jewell (Cleta) Waugh and Mrs. Maurice (Marvel) Brenden, both of Whiting; two sisters, Anna Morales of Whiting and Mrs. Bob (Cora) Kuhn of O'Neill, Nebr.; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, one great grandson, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 1986, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Thomas Guenther officiating. The organist was Mrs. E.B. Matthews and the pianist was Mrs. Florence Garred. The soloist, E.H. Gulick, sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden".

Casket bearers were Michael Brenden, Richard Brenden, David Clayton, Douglas Clayton, Raymond Harding and Lowell Dendinger. Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
