Ray Arlie Hoffman, 85, of Moorhead, Iowa died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Moorhead Christian Church in Moorhead, Iowa with Rev. Michael Brown, officiating. A private immediate family burial at Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa will take place following the service. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Ray was the second child and only son of Wallace and Irene (Fletcher) Hoffman born on December 19, 1930 at Moorhead, Iowa. Ray grew up with three sisters. He currently resided on the farm previously owned by his great-grandfather Tornow in the early 1900's.

Ray attended the Moorhead Public Schools, graduating in 1948. He married Lois Hinkel on February 1, 1953 in Moorhead, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born. Ray was a soft spoken man and devoted husband and father. He took pride in his family and enjoyed attending their school activities. Ray enjoyed having his four grandsons all visit the farm at the same time.

Ray was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church, where he served as deacon. He also served on the Moorhead CO-OP Board and East Monona Board of Education. Ray helped his father with the farming during Ray's school years and took over the farming operation following his graduation due to his father's failing health. Ray loved farming and the land. One of his and Lo's favorite past-times was dancing at Timber Ridge and Blair Marina to country western music. Ray and his family enjoyed and appreciated the many neighbors and friends who stopped to visit and have coffee.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lois Hoffman of Moorhead, IA; daughters, Lori (Curt) Cook of Republic, MO, Kristi (Gale) Johnson of Moorhead, IA, and Jodi (Rod) Hoffman-Mahlberg of Lincoln, NE; sister, Carrol Sue (William) McGuire of Moorhead, IA; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; two sisters, June Lee and Virgie Kennedy; parents-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
