Old Citizen Hears The Last Call

August Abrahamson Dons the Habiliment of the Other World January 29, 1919

He Had Been Failing in Health Since Last November. He Came to Onawa About 36 Years Ago Where He Has Since Resided. He Was A Good Citizen

In the death of August Abrahamson, which occurred at the old home on January 29, 1919 after an illness of a few months, marks the passing of another old settler and highly respected citizen of this community. Mr. Abrahamson was born on November 3, 1846, in the parish of West lose, East Gotland’s Len , Sweden. He came to America in 1880 and in a year after locating in America he came to Onawa where he has resided since 1881.

In 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Albertina Johnson and to this happy union were born the following children: Mrs. Ellen Amanda Erickson; John David, who died in infancy, Mrs. Anna Sophia Brooks; Elmer Theodore, who is now serving in France with the American Army; Mrs. Clara, Julia Worrell and Mrs. Nellie Vivian Paulina Bergatrim.

Mr. Abrahamson began to fail last summer and had been in bed since last November, he being at the time of his death 72 years, 2 months and 21 days old.

The funeral services were conducted at the old home on January 31st by the pastor of the Norwegian church, Rev. P.J. Reinertsen. First short services were held in the Scandinavian language is honor of the departed, at which time the regular services of the Lutheran Church were used after which services in the English language were held, Miss Johnson of Onawa, singing three solo’s. The remains were laid to rest in the Onawa Cemetery.
