Clifford Reed, age 79, of Mapleton died Saturday, February 25, 1995, at his home in rural Mapleton.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Walter-Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton with Pastor Stephen Root officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Bob Barry was the organist and soloist for the service and the music was “Just As I Am,” “Rock of Ages” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Clifford LeRoy Reed was born July 10, 1915, in Oto Township, Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Emma (Mundt) Reed. He grew up in the Mapleton area. On December 17, 1938, Cliff married Lillian Della Miller in Sioux City. The couple farmed until 1971 after which they operated Reed’s Café in Smithland, Iowa, for three years. They then owned and operated Reed’s Lounge in Mapleton. Lillian died April 5, 1978. Cliff was an active bowler and a longtime member of the Men’s Bowling League.

Survivors include a special companion, Louise Davis of Mapleton; three sons and their wives, Larry and Anne Reed of Benton City, Washington, Kenneth and Beverly Reed of Kingsley, Iowa and Russell and Karla Reed of Mapleton; three daughters, Evelyn and her husband, Vernon Thies of Mapleton, Florence Dean of Danbury and Laurie Reed of Battle Creek, Iowa; two sisters, Margaret McGarr of Mapleton and Flora Jordan of Sunnyvale, California; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Juanita and her husband, Leonard Cassens of Climbing Hill, Iowa and Phyllis Kelley of Sioux City.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian and a sister, Viola Carey.

Honorary pallbearers were his bowling partners, Paul Prichard and Wayne Hayworth.

Pallbearers were Terry Thies, Dale Rotnicke, Lewis Davis, Don Ladwig, Marvin Kruse and Bob Lane.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
