12 January 2016SOLDIER, Iowa | Jenita M. Grant, 79, of Denison, Iowa, formerly of Soldier, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Soldier Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Joel Gueningsman officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, rural Soldier. Visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Jenita Marie was born on March 23, 1936, in Soldier, the daughter of Howard and Ruth (Thoreson) Nordaker. She grew up on a farm near Soldier and attended Soldier High School.
Jenita and Gale Grant were united in marriage on June 6, 1953, in Onawa. To this union five children were born, Randy, Rhonda, Marcia, Mark, and Leann. She served as the Soldier postmaster for many years, where she later retired.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading, canning, lefse baking, her grandchildren, and spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of Soldier Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid.
Jenita is survived by five children, Randy Grant of Soldier, Rhonda (David) Johnson of Blytheville, Ark., Marcia (Matt) Jacobs of Omaha, Mark (Kathy) Grant of Arion, Iowa, and Leann (fiance, Steve Allen) Ohlmeier of Soldier; 11 grandchildren, Christopher (Susan) Johnson, Cortny (Nicole) Johnson, Robin (Chuck) Salfrank, Sarah Jacobs, Meagan (Derrick) Mills, Matthew Jacobs II, Jason Grant, Jennifer (fiance, Cory Call) Grant, Andrea Ohlmeier, Joshua (Sarah) Ohlmeier, and Desiree (Alyssa) Snell; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ruth Nordaker; her husband, Gale Grant on June 26, 2015; and an infant sister, LeeAnn Nordaker.
