Glen attended several schools in Cherokee County, Iowa, before moving to Moorhead, Iowa where he attended country schools for two years before going to town for fifth grade.

While on leave Easter weekend, he married Bonita "Bonnie" Shaffer on April 6, 1958, and after two weeks on leave, he returned to Georgia. Several months later, while on leave, they moved Bonnie to Georgia for his last seven months of service. After his discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Omaha, then back to Moorhead where he became the father of four sons, Mike, Terry, David, and Steve.

Glen worked for Iowa Beef for 12 years and then for John Morrell for 25 years before retiring to their 20-acre home place.

Glen loved going to the sale barn and visiting with friends about the livestock he had at home. He also enjoyed going to church at Holly Springs Bible Fellowship and visiting with friends there.
