Many old time residents of Onawa and vicinity gathered at the Derrell Brown funeral chapel; Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock to pay their last tribute of respect to one who had mingled among them as neighbor and friend for many years, leaving here a little over thirteen years ago to establish a new home in California.

Mrs. Hurst or Mrs. Delia Sykes as she was best known to Onawa people is remembered by them as a women of very attractive appearance and artistic tastes, a kind neighbor and loyal friend. She was a member of the Christian Church and its Auxiliary societies and was a charter member of the Onawa Woman's club. She and her husband, the late Frederick Sykes, were prominent and highly respected citizens in the community, their married life extending over a period of thirty-nine years.

Her marriage with Mr. Hurst was the outgrowth of a long and intimate friendship which had existed between him and Mrs. Sykes.

The body was accompanied to Onawa from California by her adopted son, Dr. Frederick Sykes of Kansas City, Mo. who went to her in the latter days of her illness to minister to her. She had been in failing health for some time.

Mr. Harry Miller gave two vocal solos, "Lead Kindly Light," and "Abide With Me," Mrs. Miller accompanying him on the piano. Interment was made in the Onawa cemetery.

In August 1917 she was united in marriage to Charles Hurst, of Pasadena, California. Mr. and Mrs. Hurst later resided in Santa Monica, Calif., where Mr. Hurst died in August 1929.
