William Stevens of Blencoe passed away at the Onawa Hospital in Onawa early Sunday morning following an emergency operation for a mastoid. He was removed to the hospital on Saturday after a 10 day illness at his home in Blencoe.

He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stevens of Blencoe, being born on February 24, 1911. He graduated from the Blencoe High School with high honors in 1929 and immediately was employed by the C & NW railroad at Blencoe.

Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Donald McAdon of Little Sioux, a brother, George of Blencoe and his grandmother, Mrs. R. D. Bryan and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

At the time of his death he was 21 years, 8 months and 6 days old.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church In charge of Rev. W. Ewart Dudley and Rev. M. P. Jones. Burial was made in a private mausoleum in Graceland cemetery. The above few paragraphs chronicle the coming and going of another young man cut down far short of the allotted span. Everyone in Blencoe knew and loved William Steven. He was kind to his parents, considerate of his neighbors and faithful to his employer. He was always mindful of his parents. He had always lived an upright life.

His death still further complicated the problems of this world as to why fate should reach out and take away from the loved ones a boy who had always tried to do the right thing. He will be missed naturally more by his family but the entire community held him in the highest esteem. The sympathy of everyone goes out to the parents, the sister, the brother and aged grandmother in their great loss.
