Joseph Washington Turnipseed was born at Hunt City, Ill. on Jan. 8, 1893 He departed this life in a Iowa City hospital on Sept. 4th, 1932. The course of his life had run 39 years, 7 months and 26 days.

He came to Monona county from his native state when ten years of age, and has been a resident here ever since.

On January 14, 1914 he married Miss Sarah E Whitlock. Eight children were born to them, 7 of whom survive their father, George died in infancy.

Joe was skilled with the tools of a carpenter. He was always a courteous and industrious man, and kind and loving to his family. About four months ago his health began to fail; he contracted a cough and lung trouble from which he never recovered.

Those who survive him are his wife, Sarah and the seven children, Violet age 16, Marshall 14, Betty Lou 8, Houston 6, Donna 4, Darrell 3 and Richard 1 year old. Two sisters also survive him, Mrs. Harry Swift of Hillsboro, la. and Mrs. Chas. Reddix, Miller, S. D. Both his parents went to their reward many years ago.

Funeral services were held at the home and the Belvidere cemetery, conducted by Rev. Thos. Batho. Mrs. Wm. Rowles and Mrs. Gossard sang two songs. The Brown funeral home directed the funeral Thursday Sept. 8th.
