21 July 1932

Joseph F. Moore was born at Peoria, Illinois, on May 18, 1870, the son of Boulden and Elizabeth Moore, both of whom have preceded him in death. He died at his home in Onawa, Iowa, an honored and respected citizen of his community on July 13, 1932 at the hour 5:56 near the close of the day aged 62 years, 1 month, 25 days. He moved with his parents to Union county, la. in the year 1878 and resided there until 1881 when his parents moved with him and the other members of their family to Onawa, Iowa. From that time until the hour of his death Joe Moore was a well-known and outstanding personality in the life of Onawa. As a boy he was a hard worker, ever industrious and enterprising. He could always be depended upon to do the thing he agreed. He was singularly gifted with personal initiative and force of character and when he grew to manhood these qualities made him a very successful man all his endeavors through life.

He was married to Annie L. Peterson on June 23, 1904 at the age of thirty four years. They have lived a happy, devoted married life together since that time. And during most of those pleasant years, Mrs. Eva Peterson, a sister of Mrs. Moore has been a member of their household.

Theirs has been one of the best and happiest homes in Onawa where they have a host of friends who now mourn with them the loss of this good husband, brother and friend.

He was a good, clean man and in his home life always kind and devoted.

Joe's work in life has been farming and the purchase and sale of hay. For several years he was one of the largest dealers in hay in western Iowa. In his business as in his life, he could always be depended upon to do what he agreed or purposed to do. He had a rugged, forceful personality which commanded respect. He was widely known and exerted a strong influence on all who knew him.

It was consistent with his personality that he belonged to no church or other organization. He stood alone as a true rugged individualist though always loyal and kind as a friend and neighbor. His fraternity was always the broader fraternity of friendship and neighborliness. Throughout his whole life he was a loyal friend and supporter of the Methodist church of which his mother and wife were devoted members. Of his immediate family, he leaves his wife, Annie L. Moore, one brother, George Emanuel Moore; three sister Mrs. Laura Crippen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mrs. Maude Clapper of Moorhead, Iowa, and Mrs. Florence Becker of Denver, Colorado. Funeral services were held at the home and by the graveside Saturday afternoon July 16, conducted-by Rev. Thomas Batho, pastor of the Methodist church. Music was by Mr. Harry Miller and Mr. Brandin. Interment was at the local cemetery. The Brown Funeral Home had charge of the funeral.
