Drowning Yesterday In Gard Lake

Body of Lowell Scurlock Found in Two Feet of Water by Authorities

The body of Lowell Scurlock about 16 years of age was found in shallow water in Gard Lake about 9 o’clock this morning by Sheriff Neal and others, the drowning having taken place yesterday afternoon it is believed. Lowell with Alex Murphy and Dair Wyland went down to the lake about 2:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon and the trio played around in the water on a log for sometime it is reported after a time it is stated Lowell left his company and started up the beach and when he did not return the others started home calling to him as they left the lake. Receiving no response, they continued on home evidently thinking nothing of the fact that he didn’t answer their call. Lowell’s mother, Mrs. Lois Scurlock became anxious because of his absence and failure to return home last night and the Sheriff office was notified this morning with the result that the body was found in about 2 feet of water.

Lowell was not a rugged youth and was subject to attack of sudden illness and it is believed that one of the attacks seized him causing him to fall unconscious in the water and his subsequent drowning. The body is at the Barnard Funeral Home where a coroner’s inquest was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon, the result of which we have not learned as we go to press.
