Blencoe, Iowa, - Stanley Lawrence Jirovsky, 84, of Blencoe died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Blencoe, with the Rev. Frank Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. today at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Jirovsky was born March 15, 1916, in Wahoo, Nebr., the son of Cyrill and Mary (Konecky) Jirovsky. He graduated from Wahoo High School in 1933. He moved to Blencoe in 1936.
He enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served with 51st Troop Carrier Wing and 60th Carrier Group. He was stationed in North Africa, Italy, Sicily, Paris and participated in the liberation of Southern France. Following his discharge, he returned to Blencoe.

He served as director of Blencoe State Bank for 30 years.

He belonged to St. Bernard Catholic Church and American Legion Stevens-Kelley Post 665 of Blencoe. He enjoyed music, playing in his dance band, boating and golfing.

Survivors include his special friend, Lois Rock of Blencoe; a sister and her husband, Helen and Ernest A. Petersen of Omaha; a brother and his wife, Jerry and Arlene V. of Blencoe; a sister-in-law, Eva Jirovsky of Onawa; four nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Vincent, and a nephew.
