10 December 2014MOORHEAD, Iowa | Dennis Swenson, 73, of Moorhead died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at his residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.
Dennis was born on Aug. 1, 1941, to George and Rachel (McHenry) Swenson, in Ute, Iowa. Dennis' father died in July 1942. Dennis' mother married Dean Davis in 1943. Dennis grew up in the Dunlap area and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1959. He joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country from 1960 to 1964.
Dennis married Marie Paula Bosse on June 1, 1963. The couple was blessed with four children. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to the Soldier, Iowa, area where they farmed, had dairy cows, did custom wind rowing and artificial insemination for area farmers. He also worked at Tyson Foods in Denison, Iowa. Marie died on Feb. 23, 1983. Dennis married Sharon Kae (Buffum) Leisinger on Jan. 18, 1985. They lived in Moorhead and operated Swenson's Market and Summertime Drive Inn. They were also the co-owners of the Traveling Grill. Dennis also worked for Jordan Valley Telephone & Long Lines. He retired from Long Lines in 2007.
Dennis enjoyed going to the casino, gardening and traveling to Las Vegas, Nev. He also enjoyed landscaping projects in his yard, following the Iowa State Cyclones, golfing, playing cards, and watching the History and Discovery channels.
He is survived by four children, Mike (Jeanette) Swenson of Bellevue, Neb., Rick (fiancee, Darlene) Swenson of Sioux City, Randy (Sandy) Swenson of Wichita, Kan., and Denise (Dean) Buske of Onawa, Iowa; three stepchildren, Lisa Winther and Brian Cave of Magnolia, Iowa, Teresa Leisinger of Lincoln, Neb., and Troy Leisinger of Omaha; nine grandchildren; 12-plus great-grandchildren; faithful companion, Bo; two brothers, Edwin (Carol) Davis of Anthon, Iowa, and Larry (Linda) Davis of Dunlap, Iowa; two sisters, Brenda (Jeff Clark) Stahlman of Stark, Fla., and Mary (Darin) Gebers of Holstein, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Paulette (Dave) Roden of Pisgah, Iowa.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Dean Davis; and two wives, Marie and Sharon.
