ONAWA, Iowa | Virgil W. Mann, 93, of Onawa died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at his residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Don Collison officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Belvidere Cemetery, rural Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Virgil William Mann was born on Aug. 14, 1921, in rural Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Frank and Maggie (Mathison) Mann. Virgil grew up in rural Moorhead and attended the Star Country School House and Castana (Iowa) High School. Virgil helped his father on the family farm.

Virgil married Della B. Conyers on July 29, 1944, in Onawa. Della passed away on Jan. 16, 1997, in Onawa. Virgil worked for Monona County as a bulldozer and maintainer operator. Virgil then worked for Loomis Trucking, where he drove truck hauling gravel. He also worked at House Oil, which was purchased by Stangel Brothers for more than 21 years. In his later years, he worked for Dave’s World in Onawa for four years and retired from Dugdale Car Wash in Onawa, where he worked for eight years.

Virgil was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa.

Survivors include a special friend, Patricia Brown of Onawa; one daughter, Elaine (Jerry) Shaffer of Onawa; one grandson, Greg (April) Shaffer of Onawa; one great-grandson, Bailey Stout of Onawa; and extended family, Patricia Olsen of Little Sioux, Iowa, Faith Stevenson of Omaha, and Hope (Lewis) Hunter of McKinney, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maggie; his wife, Della; one brother, Cleo Mann; and two sisters, Frankie Bellis and Evalena Carson.
