Pioneer Mother Passes On
Mrs. Elmira Cutler, Early Pioneer of Lincoln Twp. Buried Sunday

She was the First Women to be married in Lincoln Township Sixty-Two years Ago—The Service Were Conducted by Rev. G. H. Croker, Pioneer Minister.

In the passing of Mrs. Elmira Cutler another of Monona County’s pioneer spirits has gone to her reward. The ranks of the old settler’s are getting thinner. One by one they are answering the roll call.

Mrs. Cutler was married in Lincoln township sixty two years ago and with her husband wrought their lives into the development of the country and lived to see it the abode of happy people.

As we remember the pioneers and the hardships of those early day we must not forget the brave women who like Mrs. Cutler stood so noble by their husbands in the hardships and self sacrifices of those pioneer days.

What homemakers they were. What powerful influence for good they were, leaving their immortal impress upon their children and children’s children.

No person could tell the story of those pioneer days without devoting a large part of that story to the noble self sacrificing pioneer mothers.

Elizabeth Allen’s sweet song is a noble tribute to the mothers.
Backward, turn backward, Oh time in thy flight,
Make me a child again, just for tonight;
Mother come back from the echoless shore
Take me again to your heart as of yore,
Kiss from my forehead the furroughs of care,
Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair;
Over my slumbers, your loving watch keep, Rock me to sleep mother, rock me to sleep.

The years of the pioneer mother’s life are the woven pattern of a beautiful soul.

She has left the rich heritage of a mother’s love and a noble womanhood to her children and children’s children.

It is the quiet unheralded lives that are silently, yet surely making this world a better place to live in Mrs. Cutler’s life story is a record of a long life of patient, lowly plain Christ-like goodness.
