Aggie Reed, 77, of Sioux City, and formerly of Mapleton and Winterset, passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s Sioux City.

Agnes Louise (Best)Reed was born on March 22, 1937, at Carroll, the daughter of John and Louise (Hein) Best. She was raised in the Lanesboro area. She attended country school through the 5th grade. She then attended Lohrville High graduating there in 1955 with her high school sweetheart, Denny Reed.

Aggie and Denny were married on March 2, 1957, in the Country Church at Glidden. They began their married life together in Scranton. Aggie was a telephone operator until the birth of her first child.

In 1968, Aggie and Denny purchased Ulrich Furniture Store in Mapleton. They moved their family there and began a new business venture, Reed’s Furniture. They later expanded their business with stores in Scranton, Carroll, and Cherokee. Aggie also worked at the Beef N Brew when they closed the stores.

In 1992, the couple moved to Winterset. Dennis worked in investments and Aggie spent her time traveling back to spend time with her grandchildren. In 2011, Aggie and Denny moved to Sioux City to be closer to their children. During their 54 years of marriage, they traveled the world with trips that Denny earned through his business ventures. Denny passed away Jan. 29, 2012.

Aggie loved riding motorcycles, playing golf, going to the casino, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Cherished memories are shared by her daughter, Shelly Christophersen, and her husband, Joe, of Bronson; and son, Kelly Reed, and his wife, Karen, of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Tami (Christophersen) Siebersma and her husband, Jeff, of Eagle Grove, Sheldon Christophersen of Ute, and Abigail Reed of Sioux City; one great-granddaughter, Sophie Jo Siebersma; a sister, Patty Addison of Lanesboro; four brothers and their wives, David and Joyce Best of Carroll, Jerry and Linda Best of Denison, Jim and Karen Best of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Pastor Paul and Hari Best of Social Circle, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Best of Fort Dodge and Donnita Reed of Cedar Falls; along with many nieces and nephews; and lots and lots of good friends.

Along with her beloved husband, Aggie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Louise Best; her parents-in-law, Harry and Ruth Reed; two brothers, John Dean Best and Bill Best; two brothers-in-law, Mick Addison and Jack Reed; a nephew, David Best, Jr.; and a great-niece, Rachel Best.

The funeral service was Friday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Scott Jensen officiating.

Burial was at 2 p.m. in the Lanesboro Cemetery at Lanesboro, with Pastor Paul Best officiating.

Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 9, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
