ONAWA, Iowa | Milo Raymond Stanislav, 85, of Onawa, formerly of Blencoe, Iowa, passed from the arms of his family to the loving arms of God on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, in Kansas City, Mo., from complications related to cardiac surgery.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Milo Raymond Stanislav was born on Aug. 31, 1929, in Valparaiso, Neb., the son of George E. and Agnes (Vlcan) Stanislav.

Milo married his red-headed sweetheart, Mary Walker on April 14, 1951, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Blencoe. They have been married for 63 years. A career farmer, Milo was a devoted family man, a proud grandpa, a fisherman, shrewd card player, avid reader, bowler. He was a horseshoe player, and was no stranger to polka and square dancing. He served for more than a decade on the board of the Blencoe Co-op, and was a much-loved member of the community with a true servant’s heart.

Religion was a driving force in his life. Milo was a lifelong member of St. Bernard’s in Blencoe and St. John’s in Onawa. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, once holding the position of Grand Knight.

Survived by his wife, Mary of the home in Onawa; brother, Dennis (Edna Mae) Stanislav of Blencoe; sister, JoAnne (Bob) Lampe of Omaha; sister-in-law, Lola Stanislav of Omaha; brother-in-law, Gordon (Mabel) Walker of Onawa; sister-in-law, Pat Walker of Onawa; daughter, Dianne Hodges of Jefferson City, Mo.; sons, Bernard (Penny) Stanislav of Kimberling City, Mo., Richard Stanislav of Blencoe, and James (Lorri) Stanislav of Shawnee, Kan.; grandchildren, Vanessa Meister, Byron (Ora) Stanislav, Sonji (Michael) Lay, Kari Jo (Troy) Mallett, Bailey, Steve, and Julia Stanislav, Kristen, Jay, and Erik Stanislav, Tara (Darren) Silhavey, and Bryan (Brandi) Walsh; numerous cousins, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and a community of friends who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his father, George E.; his mother, Agnes; an infant son, Raymond; sister, Irene Montag and her husband, Vince; brother, Andrew; brother-in-law, Glenn Walker; and daughter-in-law, Laura (Jackson) Stanislav.
